About the Event

TOPIC:  Ep 027: "On the Post:” A conversation on police reform, politics, and the mistreatment of justice-minded police.

Description: Join us as we speak with our guest, Sergeant Detective Eddy Chrispin, former president of the Massachusetts Association of Minority Law Enforcement Officers (MAMLEO). Originally from Haiti, Chrispin joined the Boston Police Department in 1999. He was demoted from deputy superintendent to sergeant detective after being appointed commissioner for the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST). This nine-person board was established by a police reform bill in 2020, which granted the state commission unprecedented authority to certify officers, investigate officer misconduct, and revoke licenses.

Despite the demotion, Eddy Chrispin remains a strong advocate for community policing and has chosen to retain his position as a POST Commissioner. His decision reflects his commitment to community engagement, even though the law stipulates that law enforcement appointees to the commission can be any officer "up to and including the head of a law enforcement agency," according to the attorney general's office.
